You have reached the end of the manual. Quite a bit to read? You have probably read through this the same way you read any book. However, this book directly concerns your safety. Reread the entire manual and make sure that every item is committed to memory. You cannot take this with you to refer to in flight or in an emergency.
This manual should have given you the impression that flying is dangerous. Of course it is, but so is scuba diving, motorcycle riding and a lot of other sports. The powered parachute is one of the safest aircraft in the world but only if you fly in a safe, conservative manner. Do not assume that everything is safe because you just finished flying and nothing happened. The next time you fly you must check the vehicle as if it has never flown before.
OTHER QUESTIONS Whats holding me up in the air! This is a common question. The powered parachute machine weighs 300-350 pounds. The maximum payload is 450 pounds for a 503 52 hp and 500 lbs for a 582 66 hp. Total weight at maximum payload is therefore 800 pounds for a 503 and 850 pounds for 582. This weight is distributed through 30 suspension lines. The tensile strength is 460 pounds for each nylon suspension line. The suspension lines attach to the stainless steel cables on each side through two Rapide quick links. The Rapide quick link is rated for 7,160 pounds and carries one fourth of the gross payload weight. On each side there is a main cable/strap and a safety cable. The main and safety cable share the weight. Each main cable carries Ό of the load, the tensile strength of each cable is 3,500 pounds.
As you can see there is plenty of reserve strength in the system. This reserve is only there if you properly maintain the powered parachute. If you damage the cables/straps or any part of the system you reduce the strength. <END> |
